About Precision Code Works

Precision Code Works since 2013

PrecisionCodeWorks brought this engineering experience online in 2013, whilst working in the field since 1998

At a time when remote tuning-file services were still relatively primitive, we set out to build infrastructure capable of delivering professional calibration support to tuning workshops throughout the world.

The platform developed into far more than a file-transfer system.

Behind it sits an expanding body of calibration knowledge, original ECU software, vehicle and controller information, engineering data, calibration definitions and development experience accumulated across hundreds of thousands of vehicle applications.

Today Precision Code Works supports professional calibration work across passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles, motorcycles and agricultural applications and supports files generated using the major professional ECU programming platforms.

More than Stage 1

The terms Stage 1, Stage 2 and Stage 3 provide customers with a convenient way of describing different levels of vehicle modification.

They do not describe the engineering involved.

Our engineers consider the complete powertrain control strategy.

Depending on the application this can involve:

  • driver torque request;
  • torque modelling and monitoring;
  • engine-load control;
  • charge-pressure control;
  • wastegate or variable-geometry turbocharger control;
  • ignition strategy;
  • knock control;
  • lambda and fuelling;
  • injection timing and duration;
  • fuel and rail-pressure control;
  • airflow and smoke limitation;
  • exhaust-temperature control;
  • thermal protection;
  • engine and gearbox torque intervention;
  • transmission torque limits;
  • component protection;
  • environmental compensation;
  • diagnostic monitoring; and
  • communication between powertrain controllers.

The objective is not simply to produce a larger peak number.

It is to create a coherent calibration in which the individual control systems continue to work together correctly.

Calibration developed from data

Precision Code Works has always believed that access to good calibration data fundamentally changes the quality of ECU development.

Our engineering workflow therefore places considerable emphasis on identifying the precise ECU software and calibration variant before modification takes place.

Where engineering information is available, calibration definitions can be analysed alongside the original ECU software to understand relationships between maps, functions and control strategies.

That allows calibration work to move beyond pattern matching and towards structured powertrain engineering.

Decades of accumulated knowledge

One of the advantages of longevity in this industry is seeing complete generations of powertrain technology arrive, mature and eventually be replaced.

Our experience spans numerous generations of Bosch, Continental/Siemens, Delphi, Denso, Marelli and other engine-management systems used by European, Asian and American vehicle manufacturers.

It includes naturally aspirated engines, early turbocharged applications, common-rail diesel, gasoline direct injection, variable valve control, multi-stage boosting, sophisticated torque-based management and the highly integrated powertrain controllers fitted to current vehicles.

Every generation has contributed to the knowledge used in our calibration processes today.

Built for professional tuners

Precision Code Works exist primarily to support professionals.

Our customers need more than a modified binary file. They need access to people who understand what happens when that software reaches the vehicle.

That means helping with ECU identification, software variants, programming methods, datalog interpretation, unusual modifications, calibration behaviour and the inevitable complexities encountered when working with real vehicles.

Our role is therefore part calibration provider, part engineering resource and part technical partner.

Engineering never stops

Vehicle control systems continue to evolve.

New ECU generations, cybersecurity mechanisms, emissions strategies, hybrid powertrains, integrated torque management and increasingly sophisticated calibration structures mean that the knowledge required by a professional calibrator is continually changing.

Precision Code Works continues to invest in software development, calibration-data analysis, ECU research, datalogging and powertrain engineering so that our customers can work effectively with those systems.

The technology has changed enormously since our engineers first began calibrating vehicles.

The principle behind our work has not.

Understand the system. Measure it. Calibrate it. Validate it.
